Rug Cleaning in Old Cloverdale
Collection and delivery in Old Cloverdale are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.
What Old Cloverdale is built from
Laid out either side of Fairview Avenue and Cloverdale Road from the first years of the twentieth century and listed on the National Register as a historic district: Craftsman bungalows, Tudor and Colonial Revival houses and a few substantial ones, most sitting on brick piers over open crawlspaces with the original heart-pine and oak floors still down. Huntingdon College is on the south-western edge of it.
Long-tenured owners, restorers, and people who wanted a hundred-year-old house within walking distance of a coffee and a theatre. Rugs here are frequently older than the wiring, and most of them have held the same position on the same floor for decades.
The Old Cloverdale problem
An old floor is not a sealed floor, and that is the whole problem. Heart-pine boards laid in 1915 have shrunk apart, the crawlspace beneath them is vented to the outside, and every time the air handler runs the house draws air up through those seams. The rug lying across them becomes the filter. What it filters is the crawlspace — fine dark clay, a century of settled dust, and whatever the ground under the house is giving off that week. The result is a grey cast that follows the board lines and darkens along the edges of the rug rather than in the middle where people actually walk, which is why owners are certain the thing is fading when it is in fact soiled. It arrived from underneath, it is bound to the fibre, and running a vacuum over the top of it changes nothing.
If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
