What Millbrook is built from
Elmore and Autauga county ground north of the river, incorporated in 1979 and built out steadily since: single-storey brick houses, later two-storey subdivisions, and a large rental stock kept busy by the short drive down to Maxwell.

The Millbrook problem
A service move does something to a rug that ordinary household use never will. Rugs get wrapped in plastic for the truck, which is sensible for two days and a serious mistake for the four weeks the shipment then spends in a warehouse through an Alabama summer. Warm wool sealed in poly reaches its dew point overnight, condenses against the film and stays wet against itself, and what comes out is banded with mildew wherever the roll touched. If a shipment is still sitting in storage, ask for the rugs to be taken out of the plastic and rolled loose. The other thing this area produces is rugs bought abroad. A piece picked up on an overseas assignment has usually spent its whole life somewhere dry, and its wool, its cotton warps and any old repair in it are all conditioned to that; bring it into a climate that runs humid most of the year and brittle warps swell and give, while hide-glue repairs done in a dry country soften. Those are worth having looked at when they land rather than after the first summer.
